Negotiation and Communication in Teaching and Learning (Online)

This 2-hour workshop will equip graduate students (the participants) to develop negotiation and communication skills in a variety of settings. Students will learn about the key principles of negotiation, including what it is, the dynamics, and the different styles. Students will also develop a toolbox of negotiation techniques to set them up for success, which includes conflict resolution that will be applied into common scenarios related to teaching and learning.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define what negotiation is, the dynamics in negotiation, and different negotiation styles.
- Understand the negotiation process through different frameworks.
- Develop a plan to develop a toolbox of personal skills, conflict resolution, communication techniques, in order to become an effective negotiator.
- Apply negotiation strategies into common scenarios that can occur for graduate students in and outside of academia.
