Designing for All: Inclusive Visuals in Educational Spaces (Online)
March 14 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT
Students come from diverse educational backgrounds and cultures, but most learners process visual information much more efficiently than other formats. As a result, it is important to understand how designing effective visuals can optimize the learning experience for all students. This workshop will explore how TAs can incorporate visuals into their teaching and the best practices for designing informative, accessible, and inclusive visuals for diverse learners to enhance students' understanding of the course material. The session will go beyond PowerPoint to explore other free and accessible design tools that TAs can use to create visuals for slides, handouts, or other course resources. Participants will have the experiential opportunity to apply design concepts during the workshop, and be provided with resources on how to access and properly attribute images, icons, or other visuals they wish to include in their course materials.
