Active learning is a powerful teaching strategy and philosophy that enhances students’ engagement, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. Active learning transcends traditional lectures by placing students at the center of their educational journey and inviting them to participate actively in discussions, hands-on activities, and collaborative projects. Active learning creates an environment where learning is not a passive uptake of information, but rather an immersive experience that fosters deep understanding and knowledge retention.

Active learning is a powerful tool for teaching and learning, as it can support the learning experiences of all students in any classroom context. Active learning facilitates inclusivity by accommodating diverse learning preferences and ensuring every student, regardless of background or ability, can contribute meaningfully to the learning process. Furthermore, active learning prepares students for the dynamic challenges of the real world by mirroring professional complexities. However, active learning requires purposeful design, clear facilitation, and ongoing reflection to ensure such techniques advance the student’s learning process.

In this workshop, you will be introduced to the theory and practice behind active learning techniques. Additionally, you will learn the value of utilizing active learning strategies in your classroom, understand and apply active learning strategies to a variety of classroom settings and disciplines, and learn valuable tips for learning how to effectively facilitate active learning in your classroom.
