TA Month: Troubleshooting TA Challenges: Sciences and Engineering (Online)
October 1 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT
The work of a Teaching Assistant extends beyond teaching and grading. TAs often serve as instructors, mentors, troubleshooters, administrators, and employees, balancing these responsibilities while supporting student learning in tutorials, labs, and practical sessions. Along the way, they may encounter challenges such as low student engagement, unexpected questions, academic integrity concerns, time pressures, safety considerations, and the constraints of course policies and workload expectations.
This workshop examines common challenges faced by TAs in science and engineering courses, with a focus on the intersecting roles of graduate students as both learners and educators. Through discussion and practical case studies, participants will explore realistic teaching situations, identify potential responses, and develop strategies for addressing challenges effectively while fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
Offered as part of TA Month. Visit the TA Month Website for more information.
