This workshop is a continuation of the first workshop of Course Design Week (Fundamentals of Course and Assessment Design), in which we discussed how to determine the types assessments you should use in your course. Exams are one of the most frequently used assessment types, yet most CIs do not receive training on how to design exams. In this workshop, we explore best practices for creating effectives exams through the lens of Universal Design for Learning. We will discuss the importance of course alignment, focusing on the role of your learning outcomes when creating your exams. We will also explore the many different question types that you might want to include in your exams, such as true-false, multiple choice, short answer, essay, and problem set questions. For each question type, we will consider strategies for developing effective questions. Our discussion will also cover access and equity considerations by highlighting strategies for developing exams with all learners in mind.
Note: It is not necessary to attend the first workshop of Course Design Week to attend this one.
