As the University of Toronto persists toward internationalization, so too the graduates student body continues to become more and more international. As international graduate students transition to life at the University of Toronto, they may often notice the sometimes striking differences in the educational system and academic culture at U of T in relation to their previous educational experiences elsewhere. The goals of this two-hour workshop are for international graduate students to reflect on how their previous educational experiences are different from their current ones at U of T, to assess their inter-cultual competencies between various academic environments, and to identify their assets as international graduate students that will help them to adapt to a new academic and teaching environment. After this workshop participants will be able to leverage their vast experiences as international graduate student teachers to overcome the challenges of gaining inter-cultural competencies within the University of Toronto. In conversation with other participants, international graduate students in attendance will also leave with concrete strategies for bolstering their level inter-cultural competency at U of T.
